Get Ready to Follow to My New Blog

Look, it’s Minnie Mouse!

Well, it’s really Noelle celebrating her 4th birthday at Disneyland with her little sister Lucy.  But I like her mouse impression!  My girls are growing up as you can see, and my blog is growing up too.

In the New Year, this Losing Weight After Baby blog will come to a close BUT I will continue blogging at a new blog.  I’ll still write about parenting, health, and the merits of dark chocolate :) but the blog is going to grow alongside our kids.  It won’t only be about new babies, we’ll be talking about looking and feeling younger from the inside out.  That’s something we all want to do as moms!

So take a moment to bookmark my new blog and we’ll keep chatting in the New Year!

Could I Be Oprah’s New Talk Show Host?

I have dreamt of being a talk show host every since high school.  I know…that’s kind of like a guy saying he’s dreamt of playing in the World Cup.  It’s a “out there” kind of dream, but isn’t it fun to imagine?

So I’m happy to say I’ve submitted a video audition for Oprah’s contest to find the next talk show host on her network.  You can view it here and vote if you like my idea of “Finding Hope.”  It would be a traditional talk show where both ordinary people and celebrities would share about their hardest times and how they got through them.  Thanks for checking it out and voting for dreamers like me!  All you have to do is click “vote” – it’s that easy.  You can also do it again and again!

Thank you!

New Podcast is Up!

I’m so happy to say I have a new Losing Weight After Baby podcast up!  The episode is titled “Nine Months On, Seven Months Off.”  I can’t believe how time has flown since I last made a podcast.  Many of you have emailed about wanting new podcasts (thank you) so here you go!

The last few months, I’ve been working on edits for my book coming out in December, 31 Days to a Younger You plus caring for baby Lucy, speaking at events, etc.  But the real kicker for the podcast was that my husband computer died sending our podcast into a tailspin.  But we are back and functioning now.

Can I give you a peek into where the podcast is going?  I’ll be doing a few more Losing Weight After Baby podcasts but will be transitioning to a podcast that will be broader in scope covering topics such as:

  • weight loss
  • looking and feeling younger
  • getting closer to God and others
  • finding meaning in your work

I hope these are topics that will interest and inspire you to live your best life.  Motherhood is so special even with the sleepless nights and muffin top bellies (ours, not our babies!).  I want to help you enjoy every moment!

Atkins: Down Days and Up Days

When you’re losing weight, diets are fun (at least you’re seeing results and you’ve got momentum!).  When the scale doesn’t move or worse – when it goes in the wrong direction – how do you feel?  Discouraged, frustrated, blaise, and of course, hungry!  :)

Just so you know I’m normal, I am not losing weight every single day on my Atkins diet.  In fact, a few days ago I got really close to beating my husband to our goal (biggest loser challenge: who can lose 10 pounds first) but then I gained a pound the next day.  Ug!

When you’re losing weight, you’ve got to keep a long term perspective.  The scale might go up one day but over a two week period, you might lose 3 pounds.  That’s a victory to celebrate!

Today I weighed in at 142 lbs.  Earlier this week, I got as low as 140.9 lbs, so of course when I saw the scale this morning, I sighed.  BUT last Saturday, I weighed 143.5 lbs so I am moving in the right direction!

I must admit when the scale is moving downward, I feel optimistic.  Unfortunately the opposite is true as well.  I have to remind myself that as long as I’m moving in the right direction overall, it’s going to work out great!

Chart My Progress!

Okay the New Year has begun…have you set some short and long term weight loss goals for yourself?

Here are mine:

Long term goal:  Back to pre-pregnancy size 6 by May 10, 2010

Short term goal:  Wear size 10 jeans by the end of January

How will I lose the weight:  Exercise for 30 minutes 6 days a week, portion control, limit sugar

Current weight:  149 lbs.

Remember a goal is a dream with a plan.  You can’t just think about what you want;  you have to DO something about it.

I have been doing really well with my exercise lately.  I actually feel so much better – more energy and in a better mood – when I exercise.  I usually do it in the morning, a 20 minute workout DVD (Jillian’s 30 Day Shred is my DVD of choice), and my kids often join me watch.

I’ll be reporting my progress on the blog and I’d love to hear about your short and long term goals too.  We can keep each other encouraged and accountable!

Here’s to not wearing elastic waist pants in the New Year (yes, I’m wearing them right now).

P.S.  I don’t want you think I’m perfect and will confess…I had more than one piece of the most delicious bundt cake yesterday at my parents (think a Cinnabon cinnamon roll upgraded to Nordstrom style cake).  My pennance?  Push ups before bed.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and your family!  Our baby is usually very happy for pictures, but not for the Christmas photo.  Oh well – this is more realistic right?  :)

One starry night in Bethlehem, the light of the world came to earth, clothed in the beauty of a baby.  What a treasure!  What a strange and wonderful way for God to come to us.  Jesus came in human skin so that we could know Him.  May His love and peace fill your home today.

I’ll be journaling about my weight loss after baby #3 more after Christmas.  Suffice it to say, I’d be losing weight a lot faster if there was no such thing as chocolate.

Merry Christmas!  Joy to the world!

31 Days to a New Me!

It’s appropriate that my blogoversary is coming up.   After all, I’m starting out all over again with baby pounds to lose.  This process of losing weight after baby is what got me started blogging in the first place!

So I figure it is very appropriate to listen to my own stuff.  Starting today, I’m subscribing to my own audio course, Losing Weight After Baby: 31 Days to a New You.  Nothing like your own words to convict and convince you!

One of the action steps today is to fill in the blanks:

I will be back to _________ pounds by ________ (date).   (I suggest putting your pre-pregnancy weight here)

Let’s work together moms & have a great December to help us get towards that goal!  I think if you can maintain your weight during a cookie crazed, sugar coated Christmas season, you’ve achieved success.  And if you can lose a pound or two, even better!
