Day 14 – Going Out Without Going Overboard

healthy-tortilla-300Restaurants make it really hard to lose weight.  First of all, you’re fighting portion sizes.  The food you’re served for one meal is probably what a child eats in Africa over a few days! 

Next you’re paying for your food so you want to get your money’s worth.  If you’re at a buffet, forget the diet!  You want to eat, eat, eat, after all it’s all free right?  Wrong!  You have to pay for it at the scale – ouch.

Can you cut back from going out?  Maybe pack a lunch instead of going out one day.  The faster you avoid fast food and restaurants, the faster you’ll see the weight come off.  Of course there are times when you have to go out – meeting friends or date nights with hubby are very important for your emotional well being. 

When you’re out, try ordering an appetizer instead of an entree.  Split an entree with a friend.  Share dessert with 3 other people.  Read the nutritional facts so you know what you’re getting when you order.  Avoid fried, greasy foods and heavy sauces.  Opt for grilled chicken or fish and vegetables.  Drink water, not soda or wine or else those calories will add up in no time!   Hey I made a rhyme!

  1. I’ve found healthy and delicious menu options at the following restaurants, which I frequent once a week and still manage to lose weight:

    Noodles & Company (always eat the Small portion, or half of the Regular)
    Chipotle’s (get the Burrito Bol, it’s all the fillings without the tortilla)
    Moe’s Southwest Grill (get the Overachiever, it’s a loaded soft shell taco for $3, but don’t eat the free side of tortilla chips, which doubles the amount of calories in your meal)
