Day 20 – Your Kids Watch What You Eat

girl-and-mom-eating-apples1When was the last time your baby/toddler/child caught you eating junk food?  Yup, I’ve done it too!  I’ve been hiding in the kitchen, leaning into the microwave, eating a few chocolate chips from the bag.  And then here comes my preschooler asking me what I’m eating.  After I confess, I either have to give him one too (or else why won’t mommy share?) or explain why chocolate chips are not really good for him (then why mommy is still eating them?).

Our kids make fabulous accountability partners!  If we can just remember to feed them power foods like oatmeal, blueberries, carrots, broccoli, chicken, cheese, apples etc. and then eat those same foods ourselves, we’ll be in great shape.

The top 6 nutritional mistakes moms make with their kids according to health author and RN Danna Demetre are:

  1. Too much juice
  2. Too many hydrogenated fats
  3. Too much sugar and soda
  4. Too little fiber
  5. Too little protein
  6. Too few omega-3 fatty acids

How are you doing with this list?  Make a commitment today to subtract junk food from today’s menu and add an apple instead.
