McHealthy?

I had to smile when I saw McDonald’s on the Top 10 list in Health Magazines “America’s Healthiest Fast Food” article.  I think they were surprised too, since they wrote “One big surprise: A traditional fast-food chain McDonald’s cracked our top 10.  Sure it’s the home of the Big Mac, but did you know it also serves a mean yogurt and granola parfait?” 

McDonald’s was applauded for the options offered in the Happy Meals like apple dippers instead of fries, and milk or juice instead of soda.  Other choices they said were good:

  • Grilled Chicken Classic sandwich and wraps (skip the mayo)
  • McChicken Sandwich (on the $1 menu)
  • Salad with Paul Newman lowfat balsamic dressing
  • Egg McMuffin
  • Snack Wraps (grilled chicken) – 260-270 calories

So it just goes to show you can be anywhere and still make healthy food choices!  🙂  So next time you’re in the drive thru with your kids because you’re in a pinch, remember to pinch your waistline and choose wisely! 

By the way, other healthiest fast food chains included Panera Bread, Corner Bakery Cafe, Chipotle, and Einstein Bros Bagels.  At all of these places, you can order some really fattening, unhealthy food BUT you can also order healthy choices.  It’s up to us!
